[Databases] Use of certain individual databases is restricted to Centennial Academy students, faculty, and staff as required by license agreements. The databases designated as "Open Access" are available on the Internet to all of the public.

Centennial Academy Only Databases  
Canadian Periodical Index (CPI-Q): CPI-Q has in excess of 730,000 articles from Canadian and other international journals, magazines, and newspapers. It indexes more than 400 titles, 40% of which are available in full-text. CPI-Q is available from every terminal in the school.
Coverage: 1988 to present

Canadian NewsDisc: Includes fulltext of articles published by major Canadian English newspapers from Halifax to Vancouver. These sources are combined with transcripts of national news broadcasts from CBC and CTV News. It is available from every terminal in the Library.

Encyclopaedia Britannica: The comprehensive encyclopaedia with related Internet sites that have been selected, rated, and reviewed by Britannica editors
Virtual French News Library: Includes fulltext articles published by major Canadian and European French and English newspapers. It is available from every terminal in the Library.

Big Chalk Library Canada: This database focuses on providing the Canadian researcher with recognized Canadian and International resources including: full-text Magazine, Journal and Newspaper Articles, Reference Books and Encyclopedias, TV & Radio Transcripts as well as Maps and Pictures from around the world.

E-STAT: Includes Statistics Canada data on Canada and Canadians. E-STAT consists of two main components: the CANSIM Time Series and the Census database. In the CANSIM Time Series you will find statistics on prices, labour, national accounts, manufacturing, population, trade, and crime. In the Census database you will find Census data collected by Statistics Canada in 1986, 1991, and 1996. There is also historical Census data of New France, Upper and Lower Canada, and the maritime provinces.E-STAT is available from every terminal in the school.
WorldBook Online: The online version of the WorldBook Encyclopedia is designed to help students and teachers find answers quickly. Answers that are accurate, up-to-date, and reliable. The site features thousands of articles, maps, pictures, sounds, and video that are delivered to you over the web

Open Access Databases  
AIDSearch: A combination of 3 databases covering health policy issues and AIDS related research including information about clinical trials and the substances being tested. : AIDSLINE, AIDSTRIALS & AIDSDRUGS. A fuller descripton is available at the Web site.
Coverage: 1980 to present
ASTIS: The Arctic Science and Technology Information System database contains citations and abstracts to journal articles, books, conference proceedings, theses, and research projects that deal mainly with northern Canada. (other polar regions are included as well). All subjects are covered, including natural sciences, indigenous knowledge, technology, social sciences, and humanities.

Canadian Encyclopedia: Contains the complete text and images of the print Canadian Encyclopedia, 1999 edition with updated articles. French version also available. Added content includes: Features (e.g. Pierre Trudeau ), "100 Greatest Events in Canadian History",  interactive maps, charts, quizzes, "Today in Canadian History", etc.
Canadian Music Periodical Index: This database contains over 25,000 entries from Canadian journals. It focuses on all subjects relating to music in Canada.

Canadian Trade Index: This database provides detailed informaton on over 26,000 Canadian companies.
Canadian Who's Who: A database of concise, comprehensive biographies of prominent Canadians. The free Web version is the 1997 version of Canadian Who's Who.
Early Canadiana Online: This is  a full text online collection of more than 3,000 books and pamphlets documenting Canadian history from the first European contact to the late 19th century. The collection is particularly strong in literature, women's history, native studies, travel and exploration, and the history of French Canada.

ERIC: Includes citations with abstracts to articles, reports, and conference papers in the field of education. Covers subject areas such as counseling, information technology, and many adolescence-related issues

Famous Canadians: Short biographies and fact sheets of famous Canadians from a variety of professions.
Ingenta(formerly CARL Uncover) An Index of over 20,000 journals covering the following subjects: science, technology, medicine, social sciences, business, humanities, and fine arts.

This database covers all fields of interest to demographers, including fertility, mortality, population size and growth, migration, and historical demography

PubMed: This database indexes over 4000 journals in the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and related areas, inlcuding the area of bioethics (e.g genetic research, organ donation, abortion, and euthanasia).
Coverage: 1960's  to present
PUBScience: Like PubMed, but for the non-medical sciences, focusing on the physical sciences. Topics covered include Math, Physics, Chemistry, Geology
