Welcome
Centennial Academy takes pride in providing the tools and resources necessary for all students to reach their full potential. Centennial Academy is guided by the following principles:
  •  Never do for a child that which he / she can do for him / herself.
  • Begin with the least intrusive strategy, assess the results and move up the ladder of support guided by the results.
Centennial Academy collects and reviews the following data weekly:
  • Daily attendance
  • Attendance at tutorials
  • Test results indicating difficulty (65% or less)
  • Discipline records
  • Homework completion
  • Community service hours
  • Participation in athletics and student clubs
The following support services are available to enhance student success:
  • Tracers - daily feedback for students by each teacher.
  • Unstructured tutorials - teachers are available after school according to a schedule to provide students with extra help.
  • TAP (an extra fee service that develops students’ repertoire of learning strategies)
  • Accommodations for exams (extra time, reader, computer, quiet location as specified by a psycho-educational assessment).
  • Learning Assistants - working with students in and out of the classroom to help them achieve their goals.
  • Success Team (parents and school personnel) meetings are scheduled for students experiencing difficulty to chart progress and give feedback.
  • Study hall - a structured program that offers support to complete homework assignments.
  •  After-School Program (an extra-fee service for students who are recommended after the above strategies have been attempted) for students “at risk” as determined by the team
  • React an.d Adapt Program is held at lunch hour to help students adhere to the school's Code of Conduct.
  • Structured tutorials - teachers run subject specific study groups for students at risk.
Students are referred for an intervention when their performance falls below the expectation of school and/or family based on the assessment of the student's potential.

Parents might see something that is not yet picked up by the school. They should call the Middle School/Senior School Director to discuss the matter. It will then be brought to the Success team.

Our success with students is based on our ability to work with parents as partners. Together we support our students to discover their learning needs and accept the actions that will be required to bring about change. Together, family and school, we will plan the intervention that best meets your child's needs to develop his/her full potential.

Building your trust in this process is key to us achieving success with your child.

Private tutoring and / or after-school homework support should not be part of a Centennial student's day without the support and involvement of the Success team.

"My son always had difficulties in school, but as parents, we were not sure how to help him. The wonderful staff at Centennial quickly detected where he most needed assistance and put together a positive plan. The teachers, Learning Centre and Guidance group worked together and gave him the support he needed. After one school year, I have noticed a positive change in his behavior and attitude towards learning. He is no longer frustrated; he has an enthusiastic approach towards school work, tests and assignments. The best part for us as parents is that everyone at Centennial works as a team along with students and parents."
